A little more than six miles northwest of Chirvu lay Narumi, which seems in the past to have been on the shore of Ise Bay, but which is now a considerable distance inland. Narumi and a town immediately tc the northeast called Arimitsu are both known for their tie-dyed fabrics, and in this print Hiroshige pictured two shops dealing in these goods. The cartouche at upper left identifies the cloth as that of Arimitsu, but it may be that in Hiroshige's time goods produced in Narumi went under the name of the other town. Narumi today there are stores almost exactly like the ones shown here.
